Sine waves, arithmetic, and Renaissance sheet music were used to create these tracks. The frequencies of the individual notes were chosen using just intonation principles and spectral analysis to maximize the occurrence of phantom and combination tones—psychoacoustic phenomena where the listener hears notes that aren’t really there.

Tracks 1-3 are an interpretation of Carlo Gesualdo, “Moro, Lasso, al Mio Duolo.” Track 4 is based on a passage from Claudio Monteverdi, “Cruda Amarilli.” Track 5 is an extrapolation of Jacques Arcadelt, “Il Bianco e Dolce Cigno.”
